Irish Heart Wolfhounds

Helping you get to know the magnificent, majestic breed known as The Irish Wolfhound.

Thank you for visiting us here at Irish Hearts.

I’ve had this magnificent breed since 1993. After getting my first one, I was sold; and it didn’t take long to realize wolfhounds epitomize what a canine companion should be. My first wolfhound was followed quickly by the second, then the third–and well you get the picture.

My kennel name “Irish Hearts” speaks to the compassion and loving nature in the Irish Wolfhound. Their love knows no bounds. They have the capacity in their hearts to care for any and all creatures—human and otherwise. An over-used adage refers to the wolfhound as a “gentle giant,” but does not come close to describing their high intelligence, their century’s old noble heritage, or their intuitive spirit.

My wolfhounds allow me to live in their house. I don’t have an outside kennel, instead all eight of us share an old two-story farm house here in Arkansas. It is their wonderful traits of gentleness, quietness, pack-mentality and lackadaisical temperament that make this arrangement possible. We have lived in both cold and hot climates, and while the hounds can adapt to hot humid environments, they really enjoy a romp in the snow. There is nothing more beautiful than an Irish Wolfhound at full stride, muscles stretching, and paws pounding on a snow-packed ground. My wolfhounds have not always had acres in which to romp, but are happy with what I given them as long as we are together. We have participated in show rings and have visited local nursing homes; they strive to please me in every way…no matter what I ask of them.

This is true for all wolfhounds. I pray you get the opportunity to enjoy the companionship of a wolfhound as I would not forego my experiences with these gentle creatures for most anything in my life. For me personally, my wolfhounds have been healers, friends, confidants, and have saved my life in ways that would create volumes to explain.

If you have questions, please give me a call or send an email. Thanks again for visiting, and come back often. Please take a moment to meet each of my Irish Wolfhounds…you will love them as I do.
